How to lay pavers patio:
Step 1: Prepare and Compact the Base
Spread 2.5 tonnes of recycled road base in a 50mm layer, leveled with a 20mm-per-meter slope for drainage. Compacted in five passes, lightly spraying with water between each for a solid foundation.
Step 2: Add Bedding Sand
Applied a 20mm layer of bedding sand, screeding it in sections for a smooth, even surface.
Step 3: Lay Full Pavers
Placed 60mm-thick, 20kg pavers carefully onto the sand, adjusting height with a hooked steel bar. Continued screeding as needed. Half the area was laid with full pavers before cutting.
Step 4: Cut and Fit Edges
Measured and cut edge pieces around pipes, drains, and curves using templates, an angle grinder, and a hammer/chisel for a clean fit.
Step 5: Fill Joints and Compact
Swept dry sand into joints, followed by Pave Set compound. Compacted four times with carpet padding to protect pavers, then lightly sprayed to harden.
Step 6: Haunch and Finish
Removed edging, set rebar, and poured a sloped concrete haunch for runoff. Left 20mm of paver edge exposed for mulch blending.
