How to build a rock wall?
Step 1: Dig and Fill the Trench
Dig a level trench wide enough for backfill and wall rock; add 3" crushed gravel and compact.
Step 2: Lay the First Layer
Use the largest, flattest rocks at the bottom with flat faces facing out for a clean look.
Step 3: Backfill
Lay drainpipe, surround with drain rock, and backfill to the top of the first layer.
Step 4: Build Up the Wall
Add smaller rocks as you go, leaning the wall slightly back and backfilling each layer.
Step 5: Finish the Wall
Use soil at the top if planting; place flat stones on top as a cap for a finished look.
